$76,000 will be donated to breast cancer research through sailing

The Pink Boat Regatta announced today the organization’s $76,000 grant to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation as a result of this year’s September regattas occurring in Seattle, WA and Bellingham, WA.

The Pink Boat Regatta, operated by the Sound Contribution, a Seattle based 501 (c) (3) non-profit, held its 4th annual event in Seattle and 2nd Annual in Bellingham, WA. Participants spend months organizing and fundraising through the organization’s “buy-a-buoy” concept, earning points towards the competition on race day with each $100 raised for breast cancer research and prevention.

In 2015-2016, BCRF will award $48.5 million in annual grants to over 240 scientists from top universities and medical institutions around the globe. In addition, $5.4 million has been committed to the international Founder’s Fund project focused on metastasis. Every hour of research funded improves outcomes and saves lives. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

2016 Pink Boat Regattas will include Seattle, Bellingham, and a new venue for 2016 on New York Harbor.
